Hearts of iron IV
I was recruited in as an external Grease Pencil artist for the VFX company IStudios.
The pitch went something like this: “Kristian, we need you to draw this entire Parisian street, including the Eiffel tower, the clouds, buildings, street lamps, cars, soldiers, café sets, parasol, sandbags, spies and important documents. “
We were aiming for a sketchy, parcement-looking letter-style, read out loud by one of the members of the French Resistance. As we drive the camera backwards through this still-moment in time, we see the soldiers have completely taken over the streets and as the colours bloom back into frame, the shot stops and composes the hero against the Gestapo soldiers.
All illustrations were made entirely in Blender, using a 3D/2D tool called Grease Pencil. It is a tool still being developed and shows great potential, in my opinion.
